SILVERBACKS MUTED GOLD

We caught Dublin's Silverbacks supporting noise-pioneers Girl Band at Electric Ballroom last year and were tickled by their angular output. New single 'Muted Gold' arrives alongside the announcement of the quintet's debut album Fad, which is set for release on the 17th of July. Guided by a see-sawing bass line, vibey keys and airy backing vocals lighten the atmosphere as ticking palm-muted guitars serve as additional percussion. Paying tribute to late 70s art-rock, punk and 90s indie, vocalist/guitarist Daniel O'Kelly slurs like an exasperated Julian Casablancas with an Irish accent, before bursting into life in the onomatopoeic chorus. Produced by aforementioned Girl Band bassist, 'Muted Gold' is an exciting first taste that's leaving us eager for more. -Holly Mullineaux
